Esther Melendez

Esther Melendez, beloved mother, wife, grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 6.2024. in Houston, Texas. She was born on August 16, 1949, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, to Maria De Los Angeles Haike Chuere and Fernando Gurrola Juárez, both of whom have preceded her in death.
 
In 1973, Esther’s life took a beautiful turn when she met the love of her life, Mario Melendez Martinez. They were married on September 29, 1973, and together they embarked on a journey filled with love, joy, and family. Esther and Mario were blessed with three wonderful children, Sandra, Rebeca, and Mario, who brought immeasurable happiness into their lives.
 
In 1992, Esther and her family made the courageous decision to start a new chapter in their lives and immigrated to the United States. They settled in Houston, Texas, where they built a vibrant community and forged lifelong friendships. Esther’s warm and compassionate nature endeared her to everyone she met, and she quickly became a beloved member of her new community.
 
Esther will be remembered for her unwavering love and devotion to her family, her passion for life and her ability to bring happiness and laughter to any gathering. Her legacy lives on through her children and the many lives she touched throughout her journey.
 
She is survived by her loving husband, Mario Melendez Martinez, her children Sandra, Rebeca, and Mario. She also leaves behind her beloved sons-in-laws Peter Samuel Hill, Amaury Mercado and her daughter-in-law Frances Melendez, and grandchildren Joseph DeAngeles Palatka, Hunter Joaquin Palatka, Giovanni Kristoff Palatka, Cristian Xavier Mercado, Evan Melendez, Jake Melendez, and Blake Melendez, and a host of extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.

Visitation will be held at Leal Funeral Home Saturday February 10th from 1pm-3pm public religious services begin at 3pm followed by a moment of privacy for family from 4pm-5pm
