Harry Scott Shanks

Harry Scott Shanks passed away on November 13, 2025 in Katy Texas.  Harry was born in Leonard, Texas on December 17, 1936 to Edward Shanks and Mary Frances Shanks.  They moved to Palacios, TX to manage a movie theatre and then moved to Victoria Texas in 1941 to work for Frels Theater Company.  Harry was baptized in the Baptist church in Victoria. He graduated 3rd in his class from Victoria High School in 1954.  He played the tenor saxophone in the band, which began his lifelong love of music.  Harry attended The University of Texas in Austin where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.  He joined the Army in 1960 after graduating from college and was stationed in Seoul, Korea in the Korean Military Advisory Group.  He returned to the states and married Nina Davis, who he met when they both worked at the Victoria Theater, on August 28, 1961.  They moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico where Harry was stationed at White Sands Missile Range.  Harry and Nina moved back to Victoria in 1963 where he went to work at DuPont as a Chemical Operator from 1963-2000. 

Harry is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Frances Shanks and his brother, Tommy Shanks.  Harry is survived by his wife, Nina Shanks, son Scott Shanks and wife Hildy, son Steve Shanks, grandchildren Emily Shanks Garza and husband Rene, Davis Shanks, and Madeline Shanks, sister-in-law Janene Shanks, and nephews Sam Shanks and Ben Shanks. 

Harry was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family, dogs and cats, chocolate desserts, great music of all kinds, books, and people.  He was a kind, gentle man and loved by everyone who met him!
