Russ Lee Nelon, Sr.

Russ Lee Nelon, Sr., of South Houston, Texas , passed away on August 16th, 2022 due to heart complications while battling pneumonia and preparing for his upcoming cancer surgery at the age of 84.
Russ was a modest man who started working at 13 to help support his family and always found a way to provide with his gift of being able to turn what many saw as trash into treasure. Although, anyone that spent more than 10 minutes with him knew he was an aspiring comedian with more dad jokes than you could imagine. He was an avid lawn mower collector, loved his velcro tennis shoes,  and never minded sharing his lifesavers candy and Blue Bell butter pecan ice cream.
Russ was born in Corpus Christi, TX.  When he was in his 20’s he met Alice Mize. They fell in love and had a family of their own that included  3 sons and 3 daughters. As a family one of the things they loved was going fishing on the Texas City Dike. Being a dependable father was of the utmost importance to Russ and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family. The same goes for his love for his 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. And he was loved as much if not more by each and everyone of them.

Russ is survived by his sons, Russ (Deborah) Nelon, Jr. and Robert (Mary) Nelon and  daughters, Betty Henderson, Virginia (Scott) Bose and Sandra (Lindell) Cover.
He was preceded in passing by his father, R. L. Nelon, mother, Gwendolyn Nelon, wife, Alice Nelon, brothers, J. J. Fox and Phillip Nelon, sisters, Reba Martin and Joan Villegas, son, Gary Nelon and granddaughters, Alicia Nelon and Rachel Nelon.
