In Loving Memory of Ben Montes II
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ben Montes II. Ben was a beloved son, father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend whose kindness, creativity, humor, and generous spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome, make them laugh, and build friendships that often became family.
Ben is survived by his loving mother, Petra Alvarez Montes; his father, Ben Montes Sr.; his beloved daughter, Genesis; his sister, Genevieve Montes Arriaga; one beloved aunt; two beloved uncles; and many loving family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Above all else, Ben loved his daughter, Genesis, with all his heart. She was one of the greatest blessings of his life, and he never stopped loving her or praying for her. No matter the distance or the circumstances that kept them apart, his love for her remained steadfast and unconditional. In his final days, Ben’s greatest wish was to see Genesis one last time. If there was one thing he would want Genesis to always know, it is that she was deeply loved by her father every single day of his life. That love never faded and never will.
Music was one of Ben’s greatest passions. He loved sharing stories from his years on the road, performing with bands, and the lifelong friendships that grew from those experiences. He worked at Los’ Music Center and Legacy Sound before founding Dr. Rockstar and Guitar Morgue, where he combined his talent with his love of helping fellow musicians.
Ben also helped create South Texas Underground Film (STUF) and contributed to the STUF Horror Film Challenge, STUF Women in Film and Music, and the public access television program Aristocracy TV. A gifted storyteller, he was also working on a book.
Ben enjoyed working on many projects with friends, fellow musicians, filmmakers, and members of the community. He had a unique ability to bring people together, sharing ideas and encouraging creativity. Whether restoring instruments, supporting local film productions, organizing community events, or simply lending a helping hand, Ben formed lasting friendships through the many projects he shared with others. Those who knew him will remember his generosity, his unforgettable stories, his sense of
humor, and the loyalty he showed to the people he loved. To many, Ben was more than a friend—he was family.
Though Ben’s time with us was far too short, the memories he created, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy lives on through his family, his friends, and the countless lives he touched. May he rest in eternal peace.
