Olivia Garcia Lizcano was born on July 15th, 1939 in Eagle Lake, Texas to Francisco Garcia and Maria Catalina “Catherine” Reyes Garcia. She was the second oldest of seven sisters and two brothers. Her family knew her by her nickname “Lee’-ve”.
She gave birth to two sons Edward “Eddie” Garcia and Richard Andrew Lizcano. She has two grandsons Noah and Ethan Lizcano and one great granddaughter, Amiyah Rose Lizcano.
When her family moved to Houston around 1945, she attended Hawthorne Elementary (now an HISD Admin Building) on Houston Avenue. Her family lived on Crockett Street, near John’s BarBQ restaurant until 1970.when they moved to Fugate Street in the Norhill Heights neighborhood.
As a teenager, in the early to mid 1950’s, she attended Hogg Middle School and graduated from Davis High School (now named Northside High School) . .
She worked in the shipping and receiving department of CECO Compressor Engineering from the early 1970s until her retirement. Her sister Amy also worked there for several years in the 1970s.
Olivia and her family were parishioners at Saint Stephens Catholic Church and Christ the King Catholic Church. Several family members were parishioners at Saint Benedict Catholic Church.
Olivia was known to have a big heart and a strong faith. She raised nieces and nephews as their main parental figure, she was the primary caretaker of her mother for 12 years. She stood up strong for what she believed was right and was dedicated to praying the rosary with her sisters and parents. She enjoyed listening and dancing to music, playing bingo and games, watching tv and sports. She thoroughly enjoyed showing big love to her family, especially the younger generations, by shopping for gifts for them, remembering everyone’s birthday and taking extra time to prepare for holidays, cooking delicious meals with lots of love and enjoying time with her family.
Olivia is survived by her son Edward, grandsons Noah and Ethan, great granddaughter Amiyah Rose, sisters Ophelia Garza, Virgina Garza, Alice Martinez and Marian “Barajas” Lopez, brothers John “Johnny” Garcia, Jaime Garcia and many nieces and nephews.
Greeting her in heaven are her parents Francisco Garcia and Maria Catalina Reyes Garcia, sisters Anita “Annie” Ramirez and Amelia “Amy” Santos, her son Richard Andrew Lizcano, an unborn grandchild and nephews Christopher “Chris” Ramirez and Roland Garza.
