Phillip Clifton Turner

September 12, 1940 – January 7, 2022
Phillip Clifton Turner was born on September 12, 1940 to Mabel McGowan and James Turner, the youngest of six children for his mother.

Phillip (lovingly known as Pa, Daddy and Clifton by family) married Helen Marie Gillespie in 1965 and they became the proud parents of 3 children: Anthony Dwayne, Phyllis Marie and Rhonda Denise.

Phillip is a graduate of the Houston public school system after attending both Yates and Worthing High Schools and doing additional study at Texas Southern University.

Phillip accepted Christ at an early age and later rededicated his life to our Lord and Savior at St. Agnes March of Faith Ministries where he was a faithful member. Phillip served on the Usher Board, Funeral Ministries and assisted wherever needed until his untimely death.

Phillip worked as a Master Electrician and retired from Champion/Simpson Paper Co of Pasadena, TX. Additionally, he was a “jack of all trades” and could fix or repair just about anything he tackled; be it technical, constructional or mechanical.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Phyllis Turner-York, three brothers, Isom Carter Cochran, Lee Vernon Cochran, Paul David Walker and one sister, Joy San Walker Brown.

Phillip leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 56 years, Helen Turner, son Anthony Dwayne, daughters Veronica Yolanda and Rhonda Denise, sister Lena Walker Gilmore, sister-in-law Cherry Jacobs, 7 grandchildren: Derrick, J.C., Patrick, Britney, Lynnsee, Phillip and Jahna, 6 great grandchildren with 1 on the way and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

One of Phillip’s favorite Bible verses describes the life he endeavored to live by daily: I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 2 Timothy 4:7

Phillip is greatly loved and will be greatly missed. Now, he has joined his daughter with God for to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
