Tommie Laurette Couch a.k.a. “Dimples” was born on July 30, 1952 in Beaumont, Texas, to Thomas Couch and Irene Lanier. She was raised in the Lanier household, where her mother served as head of the family until her marriage to a Mr. L. D. Bryant. Until her death there was question of who her real father was. Tommie grew up in Beaumont and called the city home until 1986 when she and her 1st husband John Mickey Guidry Sr. divorced and she soon set out to build a new chapter of her life, career, and continued education in Houston, Texas with her 2 sons until the last 2 years of her life. (back in Beaumont).From her 1st job at The Beaumont Police Department through her time away (Houston), Tommie had already become an accomplished secretary and administrator, and she went on to further her education in business administration while also earning a cosmetology license. Her hard work and skill led her to Camac Holdings, an oil company, where she served as Chief Secretary to CEO Kase Lawal for approximately nine years — a role that reflected her dedication, precision, and the trust she earned from those she worked alongside.
Tommie was married to John Mickey Guidry Sr. from 1977 to 1986, to Terry Glen Phlegm from 1988 to 1996, and later to Charles Johnson for a brief period in the 2000’s.
She was a devoted mother to two sons, Jerry Jerome Muhammad (of the Colbert family) and John Mickey Guidry Jr., and a loving grandmother to five grandchildren: Kameryon, Noah, Amirah, Matthew, and Nailah.
Tommie is also survived by her niece Phillipa (daughter of her sister Charlita); her nieces Cheryl, Carla and nephew Leonard (children of her sister Joanne); and her cousins Earl, Brenda, Grover, and Orvelyn. She was also the loving caretaker of her three dogs, Hazel, Milo, and Baibee Johnson, who brought her much joy before her departure.
Tommie loved the Lord and held a strong Baptist/Christian faith throughout her life, though she had not settled into a specific church home at the time of her passing. She found deep enjoyment in documenting, sewing, crafting, and trying new recipes in the kitchen.
Above all, Tommie was known for her warm and pleasant spirit. She had a natural instinct to help — always finding a way to show up for someone in need. Those who knew her and worked alongside her remember her most for her willingness and ability to be an asset to any team or effort she was part of. Her generosity, warmth, and steady presence leave a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
