Abelardo (Abel) Zubiate, 54 years old, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2022. Abel was born on February 17, 1967 to his loving parents Abelardo and Mercedes Zubiate. He is preceded in death by his father Abelardo who passed away on August 26, 1993.
Abel is blessed with a large and loving family. He is a beloved husband of 30 years to the love of his life, Norma (De Los Santos) Zubiate, who he met in Odessa, Texas through mutual friends. Together they raised three caring young men—Brandon, Zachary and Caleb.
A loving and humorous husband, father, brother and son, Abel’s family and friends will carry many fond memories of his life here on earth. Not only was he devoted to God and his favorite West Texas asado dish made by Chef Loué (aka Louie), he also had a passion for classic cars and sports. It would be no surprise if he were reunited in heaven with his 1959 Chevy Impala, also known as the Batmobile. Abel also holds the title of No. 1 fan for the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Lakers and the Alabama Crimson Tide college football team. His love for sports extended to his most favorite pastime of coaching his sons through little league baseball.
Abel will be truly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Norma; his sons Brandon, Zachary and Caleb; his mother Mercedes, his siblings Rosie Tonche, Maria Alvarez (Fidencio), Luis Zubiate (Mari), Alfonso Zubiate (Liz), Elisa Chavez (Louie), Victor Zubiate and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Services will be held on Friday, Jan. 14 at Iglesia Sobre La Roca (Church on the Rock) at 433 Barker Cypress Road in Katy, Texas, with visitation from 11 a.m. to noon followed by a Celebration of Life service. His burial is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Calvary Hill Cemetery located at 21723 Aldine Westfield Road in Humble, Texas.
